Question 1

Does ICBC cover home physiotherapy?

Accepted Answer

Yes. ICBC covers in-home physiotherapy for motor vehicle accident injuries. We direct bill ICBC on your behalf, so for most patients within the first 12 weeks of their accident, treatments are fully covered with zero out-of-pocket costs. Our registered physiotherapists provide the same quality of care you would receive in a clinic — delivered in the comfort of your home.

Question 2

How much does home physio cost?

Accepted Answer

Our standard physiotherapy sessions are $190 for a 45-minute session or $220 for a 60-minute session. Kinesiology and active rehab sessions start at $140 per hour, plus GST. ICBC-covered patients pay nothing out of pocket. Many extended health plans also reimburse physiotherapy — we provide detailed receipts for easy online claims submission. Visit our Fees page for a full breakdown.

Question 3

Is mobile physio more expensive than clinic?

Accepted Answer

Our rates are very competitive with clinic-based physiotherapy. While some mobile services charge significant premiums, we keep our pricing accessible because we believe in-home care should be available to everyone who needs it. When you factor in the time, stress, and cost of travelling to a clinic — especially for seniors or post-surgical patients — mobile physio often offers better overall value.

Question 4

Can I use extended health benefits?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our physiotherapists are fully registered with the College of Physical Therapists of BC, and our kinesiologists are registered with the BC Association of Kinesiologists. While we do not currently direct bill most extended health plans, we provide detailed receipts containing all necessary information (provider registration number, licensing details) so you can easily submit your claim online for quick reimbursement.

Question 5

Do you direct bill ICBC?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we fully direct bill ICBC for all approved claims. This means you pay nothing upfront and nothing out of pocket for your physiotherapy or active rehab sessions. We handle all the paperwork and billing directly with ICBC so you can focus entirely on your recovery.

Question 6

What conditions do you treat?

Accepted Answer

We treat a wide range of conditions including post-surgical rehabilitation (hip and knee replacements, spinal surgery), fracture recovery, stroke rehabilitation, arthritis and joint pain, chronic pain, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, balance and mobility issues, sports injuries, whiplash and other motor vehicle accident injuries, and general deconditioning. If you are unsure whether we can help with your specific condition, please contact us for a free consultation.

Question 7

Do you treat Parkinson's disease at home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Our physiotherapists have specialized training in neurological conditions including Parkinson's disease. We focus on maintaining mobility, improving balance, reducing fall risk, and supporting functional independence. In-home treatment is especially beneficial for Parkinson's patients because exercises are practiced in the actual environment where they live, making gains more practical and transferable to daily life.

Question 8

Do you provide physio after hip replacement at home?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Post-surgical rehabilitation after total hip or knee replacement is one of our core specialties. We begin working with you as soon as you are discharged from hospital — often within days of surgery. Our in-home program focuses on restoring range of motion, rebuilding strength, improving walking and stair climbing, and helping you return to your normal activities safely. Many orthopedic surgeons recommend home-based physio for the early recovery phase.

Question 9

What is active rehab?

Accepted Answer

Active rehab is an exercise-based rehabilitation program typically provided by a kinesiologist. It focuses on guided, progressive exercises to restore strength, endurance, flexibility, and function after an injury. Active rehab is commonly used for ICBC claims and post-surgical recovery. Our kinesiologists design individualized programs and supervise every session in your home to ensure correct form and steady progress.

Question 10

How quickly can you start?

Accepted Answer

In most cases, we can schedule your first appointment within 24 to 48 hours of your initial call. For urgent post-hospital discharges or ICBC referrals, we do our best to accommodate same-day or next-day visits. Early intervention is key to a successful recovery, so we prioritize getting you started as quickly as possible.

Question 16

Is there a travel fee?

Accepted Answer

Our standard fees include travel within our primary service areas of Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Surrey, and Richmond. For locations significantly outside these zones, a small travel surcharge may apply, which we will always discuss with you upfront before booking. There are never any hidden fees.

Question 17

How long are the sessions?

Accepted Answer

Physiotherapy sessions are typically 45 to 60 minutes, and kinesiology sessions are usually 60 minutes. Because we come to your home, the entire session is dedicated 1-on-1 care — there is no time lost to travel, waiting rooms, or sharing your therapist's attention with other patients.

Question 18

Do I need any equipment at home?

Accepted Answer

No. Our therapists bring all the necessary equipment, including a portable treatment table, resistance bands, exercise tools, and therapeutic modalities. All you need is a small space for us to set up — a living room or bedroom works perfectly. We adapt our treatment approach to your home environment.

Question 19

Do caregivers need to be present for seniors?

Accepted Answer

While we welcome and encourage family or caregiver involvement, it is not strictly required. Our physiotherapists are highly trained to work safely one-on-one with seniors, including those with cognitive impairments or mobility limitations. Having a caregiver present can be helpful for learning exercises to assist between visits, but the decision is entirely up to you and your family.

Question 20

What should I wear during my session?

Accepted Answer

Please wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely and gives the therapist easy access to the area being treated. For lower body treatments, shorts or loose pants work well. For upper body work, a t-shirt or tank top is ideal. There is no need to change into anything special — comfort is key.

Question 21

How do I book an appointment?

Accepted Answer

You can book an appointment by calling us directly, filling out the contact form on our website, or requesting a callback through our online booking system. We will ask a few questions about your condition and preferences to match you with the right therapist. From there, we schedule your first visit at a time that works best for you — including evenings and weekends when available.

Question 22

Do you provide treatment in care homes and assisted living facilities?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We regularly provide physiotherapy and kinesiology services in assisted living facilities, residential care homes, and independent living communities across Greater Vancouver. We coordinate with facility staff and your care team to ensure seamless, consistent treatment. Many families choose our services to supplement the care their loved ones already receive.

Question 23

What happens during the first visit?

Accepted Answer

Your first visit begins with a thorough assessment. Your physiotherapist will review your medical history, discuss your goals, and perform a physical evaluation to understand your current abilities and limitations. Based on this assessment, we create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Most patients also receive hands-on treatment during the first session, so you leave feeling like progress has already begun.

Question 24

Do you need a doctor's referral for physiotherapy in BC?

Accepted Answer

No. In British Columbia, physiotherapists are primary care practitioners, so you can book an assessment directly without a doctor's referral. A few situations are exceptions: some extended health plans require a referral for reimbursement, and ICBC and WorkSafeBC claims have their own intake process. We're happy to walk you through exactly what your plan or claim needs when you call.

Question 25

How long does physiotherapy take to show results?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the condition. Many people notice some improvement within the first two or three sessions, while full recovery from surgery or a significant injury usually takes 6 to 12 weeks of consistent treatment plus a home exercise program. Your physiotherapist sets realistic milestones at the first visit and tracks progress against them. In-home care tends to improve outcomes because exercises are practised in your real environment, and people are far more likely to keep them up between visits.

Question 26

How often should you see a physiotherapist?

Accepted Answer

Most treatment plans begin with one to two visits per week, then taper as you progress and take on more of your home program independently. ICBC and early post-surgical plans are often more frequent at the start. Your physiotherapist recommends a schedule based on your goals and adjusts it as you improve — the aim is always to get you independent, not to keep you coming indefinitely.

Question 27

What's the difference between physiotherapy and physical therapy?

Accepted Answer

They are the same profession. 'Physiotherapy' and 'physical therapy' are interchangeable terms for the same regulated practice — 'physiotherapist' is the common title in Canada and the UK, while 'physical therapist' is more common in the United States. Our clinicians are registered physiotherapists with the College of Physical Therapists of BC.

Question 28

Should I see a physiotherapist or just rest and wait?

Accepted Answer

Rest helps for the first day or two after an acute injury, but prolonged rest often slows recovery and can lead to stiffness, weakness, and longer-term problems. As a general rule, if pain lasts more than a week, keeps returning, limits your daily activities, or follows a fall, surgery, or car accident, an assessment is worthwhile. A physiotherapist can tell you whether you need active treatment or simply some guided self-management — and in BC there's no referral needed to ask.

Question 29

How do I prepare my home for an in-home physiotherapy session?

Accepted Answer

Very little is needed. Clear a small open space such as a living room or bedroom so there's room to move and for the therapist to set up a portable treatment table. Wear comfortable, loose clothing, and have any relevant medications, braces, or walking aids nearby. A sturdy chair and a clear path to a wall or counter are helpful for balance work. We bring all the equipment — you just provide the space.
